About UPFARM
Social Farming for inclusive, sustainable, and regenerative jobs against long-term unemployment
UPFARM is breathing new life into social farming in Tuscany, turning it into a driver of inclusive, sustainable, and regenerative jobs. The goal? To create real opportunities for people who have been out of work for a long time and those facing vulnerability.
Through four territorial Living Labs, UPFARM brings together farmers, institutions, and communities to build local alliances and test new ways of working together. Here, innovation starts with people: personalised job pathways, training, co-governance, and practical tools to shape inclusive and regenerative futures.
From pilot labs to region-wide adoption, UPFARM aims to leave a lasting legacy: tools, knowledge, and policies that foster social inclusion, quality jobs, and ecological transition.
UPFARM Living Labs
UPFARM comes to life in four territories across Tuscany – Valdinievole, Piana di Lucca, South-East Florence, and Pisa. In these places, the Living Labs serve as real-life testing grounds: farms, fields, and communities become meeting spaces where new approaches to social inclusion, sustainable agriculture, and social innovation are co-created.
Each territory contributes its own stories, challenges, and opportunities, helping shape concrete solutions for social farming that can be adapted and scaled across the region. At the same time, the Labs are connected to a wider European network: through transnational collaboration, they tap into the knowledge of international partners to exchange practices, strengthen scaling pathways, and feed into EU-level policy innovation.
